BOTOX, DYSPORT and XEOMIN are trade names for the injectable drug Clostridium Botulinum Toxin Type A.Its a neurotoxin that blocks nerve impulses in the muscle.
Therefore wrinkles that are caused by repetitive movement can be relaxed and faded by temporarily paralysing the active muscle.Wrinkles caused by sleep lines, sun and gravity will not respond to botulinum toxin A.
Clostridium Botulinum Type A is a neurotoxin is derived from the BACTERIA that causes Botulism. This bacteria produces the neurotoxin that is used for injecting. So it’s not the actual bacteria but a neurotoxic protein produced by it. The effect of this neurotoxin blocks the release of a nerve transmitter called “acetycholine” (which signals the muscle.) Thus causing temporary paralysis of that muscle.
The difference between the brands are in the molecular structure of the botulinum toxins and are manufactured in different countries. Most consumers are confused about the strength measurement called “units” . Manufacturers have differing values of “units”. 1 Unit of Botox and Xeomin equates to 2.5 units of Dysport.
Each vial is refrigerated delivered due to its delicate nature and has a fine film of powder in the bottom of the vial.Before use the vial which contains 100 units of Botox is reconstituted 2.5 mls of Sodium Chloride (Saline).Some clinics , reconstitute with 4 mls of Saline which results in a weaker product.
When mixed with the recommended 2.5 mls of Saline,1ml of Botox equates to 40 units.This amount would do Frown Forehead and Crows feet.
